Roughly 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.
Cars, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with Nazi symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers state they were alerted late on Wednesday, when a individual discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found multiple other smeared automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials state preliminary tests show the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not informed of any physical harm in association with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were attempting "to solve the mystery" and have appealed to the residents for details.
An important official commented the vandalism left him stunned and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the extremist attack five years ago," he wrote on social media, referring to the death of nine victims by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
